Anyone have an idea how many miles I can go when the last square on the gas gauge starts flashing? Not sure if I need to immediately head to the gas station or if I can make the commute home first. Very frustrating!

first off the car should never get that low .says in the manual..it will cause serious proublems.and if you go 55 it will get 30 miles on one bar....angel

You may have figured this out already, since you posted a few months ago. You have PLENTY of time to drive once the fuel guage starts blinking. My '05 Prius averages about a 9 gallon fillup, and I usually drive a 10-20 miles sometimes before I fill up. There is a fuel 'bladder' which holds part of the fuel.

Recommend a great website: www.priuschat.com - plenty of info there. Good luck!

I have put 100K miles on my 2001. I find the best educated guess on how many miles I have to drive before I completly run out of gas is to reset the milage on the display every time I fill the gas tank full.

When the add fuel or adjoure Essence comes on the screen I note my average MPG. Usually reads at 38-50 MPG. The MPG is the amount of miles you have left before you run completely out of fuel.
I have tryed other ways and ended up walking for gas. From a full tank I figure after 10 gallons get used the low fuel light blinks. The tank holds 11-12 gallons. So when you get low fuel you have approximately 1 gallon left. At that point I drive very conservatively and estimate the distance to the closest fuel station with the lowest price. Good luck and just in case carry a couple gallons of gas in the trunk when trying this method.

50-60 miles BUT you jeopardize burning up your fuel pump with running your vehicle that low on fuel.

You mean the guess gauge? Depends on the weather. really. Once it gets cold the bladder gets stiff and the guage is all over the place. My 05 took 9 gallons with one bar flashing in warm weather. last saturday at -5 it took 5.68 gallons with one bar showing, after 70 miles it was back down to 3 bars, so who knows. Don't explore the limits in cold weather or at night on deserted roads. Z

hmmmmmm....i wonder why would you wait until the last bar to refill? we're already getting phenominal mpg's with our prius', just fill up when you're at the last two bars.......

I have an '07, and the gas gauge chirps and starts blinking when I have about 2 gallons left. I found that out the hard way; had to push the car about 100 yards to a gas station because I incorrectly calculated how much farther I could go. These days, I rely more on the center console mileage indicator - when I reach 400 miles, I fill up.
