2002 Jetta TDI 4 Speed Automatic Transmission slipping...

My 02 TDI Jetta has a 4 speed automatic transmission that is slipping and doesn't like to go into reverse some times. I have searched the net and found this is very common for this particular year and transmission. My mechanic said the valve body is shot and the torqe converter is trashed. The only problem is the transmission shifts great if you are on the gas. It acts like there is a part in the transmission that needs to be replaced. I'm not 100% confident in this mechanic. He wants to sell me a new one. Does anyone know if there is a simple part that can be replaced? Does anyone have good advise or know a good Tranny rebuild shop?

Thank you

Eric

Not sure about the part replacement but I sell used parts and we sell every trans like this we can get real quick so it is a definite problem.

Your transmission is gone. Don't bother with a cheap rebuilt, they won't last. Either get a factory remanufactured from VW (not cheap, like $4000 or more plus labor) or swap a manual tranmission into it (about $1000 to 2000, plus labor)

Some great suppliers and advice for either option is a click away at tdiclub.com. Good luck.

Hello:

I have the same problem on the 02 Jetta TDI I own. It is about to hit 100K miles. What did you end up doing? One mechanic suggested I try changing the transmission oil to see if the problem goes away. Another said I may need to change the string of sensors that manage the transmission system.

Thanks,
