Hi, I'm searching for a gas tank for a 1978 245 DL (station wagon - 2.1 litre)... Any suggestion on a parts dealer with good prices?!? And, do you know what the cross-over years would be for this part (like 1975-1983 etc.) ??
Hey Brooks, Great solid car you have there. Watch out for rust in the underbody channels. A great place for parts to give you better handling and performance is: http://www.ipdusa.com/Volvo-200/c-1-69/ Joining the Volvo club of America or just asking them where to get parts would be a great start. http://www.vcoa.org/ Used IPD on my Volvos without any problems. Since I'm living in Norway now I use European clubs for help.
I will go directly to the issue. I had the same problem with a rusted tank in my 90' 245. I was able to get a nice, used, rust free tank from a sedan. Yes, sedans and wagons (estates) have the same size and style gasoline (petrol) tank. You can check at your local junkyard, if you can remove the gasoline sender an it shows no rust then you have a winner. Good luck! In eBay i've seen somebody offering a new tank for about $104.00 USD, maybe shipping could be very expensive to your country. Give it a try. I would like to add that you can check tanks from 1980 to 1993.
