Without a doubt, John 'the Deisel' Riggins. Number 44 in your program, number one in our hearts. I was almost 12 when i watched him run through Don McNeal on his way to Super Bowl Glory. Hail to the Redskins. Shoulda beat GB yesterday...
Darrell Green will always be right up there with the great ones but, Art Monk showed him how to catch a wobbler. My favorite was John Riggins. When he got the ball you could bet the farm he'd get at least 5 yards.
My favorite Redskin is Chris Cooley now that Sean Taylor is no longer on this earth. All time favorite? I am gonna go with Kurt Gouveia. Nobody seems to remember him.. but he was a great linebacker in the 80's. Always there to fall on the fumble... led the team in tackles many games.
I've always been a huge fan of Art Monk. I did like watching Green play & I actually met him once when they were getting their team photo taken up at the Jefferson monument. After the photo shoot, the team got on a bus & went back (I guess) to practice, but he had a family event to go to, so he changed his clothes in the restroom, then ran to his car. I was waiting by the entrance of the monument, then I saw him come out dressed in plain clothes. I ran beside him all the way to his car, begging for a photo. He was too busy to stop, but at least I can tell people that I "did the 50 yard dash with the NFL's Fastest Man".
But back to Art Monk... I've been an avid collector of his cards since the 80s. I also have built a website dedicated to him & am currently working on publishing a book on him that's due to be released this Spring!
I like alot of the older guys too. These new guys aren't half the men of the older guys. My favorite Redskins are Herb Mul-Key, Gary Clark, and Alvin Walton
