Hello everyone!! I'm new to the neighborhood and wanted to extend my greetings. I really like red wine and am trying to learn about them. I really like Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon.. Can I have some suggestions for a few other good ones? Thanks!
The best thing to do as a new wine drinker is to learn the differences from wine region to wine region. Yes, the wine maker adds his/her flavor and style to the wine but the basic knowledge will aid you in understanding what type of wine you enjoy best. This will come in handy when in locations that names are not as recognizable but you will have knowledge of what overall style you can hope to expect from each region.
try Cabs from Paso Robles (California), Napa ( 2 from valley floor & 2 or 3 from mountain wineries), Sonoma, Mendocino, Lodi, Washington State, Oregon give you agreat place to start.
After this I would focus on Chile & Argentina, then Italy, Then France, then Australia & New Zealand. Enjoy the trip it is a life long education.
Hello to all!!! I just joined this neighborhood and I love wine.
Here in California we have Trader Joe's World Market and they have a Cabernet nicknamed the 2 Buck Chuck (because it costs $2.99) and it is amazing. This same brand also has a very good Shiraz for the same price.
Trade's also has a very good Malbec from Argentina called La Boca for $2.99. Also available are Port Wines for $5.99 and my German Mosels Liebefraumilch at $3.99. The German wines have gone up a little due the strong Euro.
