Hi everyone, I'm new to the 'hood and I have a little something on my mind. I'm a total girly girl and I'm totally a gamer. Everyone at Gamestop and Best Buy look at me like I'm a freak when I'm buying Halo 3 or Bioshock, I get the " shouldn't you be buying Viva Pinata or Sim something?" look. Is it that weird that for a girly girl to be a gamer? I know it looks a little off when I roll in wearing pink with Dolce and Gabbana sunglasses but wtf?
Useful Funny
I have a ton of female friends, and can vouch from personal experience that my friend Ashley can annihilate anyone i know in at least halo on the 360. she never practices, either... she also uses steam on her laptop and has around 20 games now, from Bioshock to Dawn of War.

Also, one of the employees at a gamestop near me has an entirely female staff.

I know you're right about the comments people make, there is definately a female stereotype. I'd take a bet you get hit on (terribly) on xbox live for your voice. but as for the store people, its also the thought of "where the hell is she getting the money to have both the expensive womanly things and Bioshock?"

So, you know, keep kicking names, etc.

I'm not a girly girl by no means, but I know where you're comming from. I like all kinds of games too. A little bit of blood and violence never hurt anyone. I think the people that are sterotyping women are just jealous that we have learned to become equals in a manly mens world.

I get hit on everywhere! It's such a shame. At Game Stop all the guys that work there flock over to me to "help" me. Someone could be screaming for help and the entire staff is asking me what they can get for me and what games I like and everything. I hate the discrimination but I have to say I love the discounts.

I gotta say that while I agree the stereotype isn't always warranted I guess there's also reasons for it. I know there is ALWAYS exceptions to the rule, I for one have female friends that are gamers, but most of the women I know only play games like Wii Sports, Mario Party, and occasionally DDR, Rock Band, etc. I also know a few that play games like oblivion but they're totally lame and won't play them without cheats like "God Mode" and say they just play to "Explore the game".

Now I admit I have friends that are REAL gamers, and I acknowledge there are some out there. But you are a precious gem, a rare site that many men dream of finding but in reality rarely ever do. I am a hardcore gamer but have scarcely had a girlfriend I could get to play any game that doesn't have the word "puzzle" or "jewel/gem" in the title. So I tell you be thankful for those odd stares of discord they give you... they are merely shocked and have no clue what a proper response would be. However deep inside they have dreamt of you for years and are only jealous because you are not theirs.

That is a good point. My boyfriend always tells me how cool it is that I can whip his ass in Bioshock. All his friends are jealous. Lol.

I totally understand what you mean, I went to buy a pink controller once and the guy at best buy asked me what games I played, I told him I was a general in Halo and he didn't believe me ahah. I love it how guys think girls that wear pink don't play video games and then we whoop their ass and they feel stupid haha

LOL. Your experiences are not much like what girls around me that game get. I find it totally odd that you get that look. Plenty of girls play Halo.

I think it's already been said too many times before but guys have dreamed of a girl like you. Have you ever seen that Fairly Odd Parents episode with Trixie buying the Skull Squisher comic book? same deal. I find it's a relief that women are migrating against the stereotype. This helps the geeks and nerds (me included) realize that ladies aren't some foreign creature that is to be placed on a pedestal, they are human like everyone else they've met. As I'm reading this I realize that I sound really sappy, but it does need to be said.

As a side note, my girlfriend absolutely LOVES Gauntlet: Dark Legacy for the PS2. No cheats. w00t!

Despite the fact that the average gamer is in their 20's, the majority of the general public still view video gaming as a kids hobby. The same thing applies to girls and gaming. Female gamers are the fastest growing demographic in the video game industry, but the majority of people still believe gaming is a man's hobby. This will likely be the case for a while still. But as gaming increases to become more mainstream, as online gaming becomes more the norm, and as the current generation of gamers becomes older, girl gamers will become less and less of an isolated phenomenon. But it certainly helps to have girl groups more and more active in the gaming community. Just look at the Frag Dolls. They're perhaps one of the most well-known gaming teams, and they're all girls.

My boyfriend is really proud that I am the same way. I'm not super girly but I still get weird looks when I buy games. Props. We need more female gamers. Boys think its hot. :)

Hey, I know what you mean. I get the same thing at any store that sell video games. They are like are you buying that game for your brother, and they are so shock that a girl like me even knows what a X Box 360 is. I like the RPG like Oblivion, Lost Odyssey, Two worlds. But I love Halo, I can kick any man's butt on that. And I never use cheats there no point to play the game with them. So to any girl, woman out there that loves video games your are not alone.

I know what you mean. Not only do I play games like Halo3 and COD4, I also repair consoles. Guys are usually pretty sceptical that I can really fix them, but they sure look happy when I give 'em back their working console that they thought was toast. LOL
