dont know if this is the right place or not but i figure what the hell worth a try.
i picked up a 90 FZR 1000 for $500 from a good friend. It runs and drives, but she burns oil (im thinking stuck piston ring) but my major concern is a knocking thats consistant with rpm when engine braking. BESIDES for main bearings, any ideas of what that would be and why it would only occur when engine braking?
sounds like you for sure need to re ring it thats the only way you can burn oil it has to get past the rings to burn ? make sence to you and that is causing your knocking problem from your rod bearings not geting the lubercation it needs because its burning up (rings) the reason you only here it during braking is that your motor is warmed up more and under more stress when useing the motor to slow down and most likely pretty soon your rod bearing will give out and explode the little pins all over crank case and blow your top end and crank to pieces, stop the bike right away if you dont want to die if crank locks up its over unless your only going very slow good luck
