I was recently on a Zune blog and noticed something that has me worried.I just purchased a black 30g Zune.Anyway my question is has anybody had problems with their screen cracking after charging the unit for long periods? The person that started the blog claims Microsoft knows about this problem and won't help anybody because they don't warranty this.Has anyone else encountered this?

well, i think iv come close to that happening. i like to listen to lite music when i sleep. one night i connected it to my ac adapter and hit play. hours later i woke up and noticed it was still on. i picked it up and it was hot, or pretty damn warm. normally it would automatically shut off, but i noticed that the repeat was on. in order to automatically shut off the play list has to end but when its on repeat it wont end and keep play'n and charging. that was the only time i have had any abnormal heat problem. other than that no problems.

Totally bogus, i leave my Zune ( black 30g ) in the charging dock all the time. Have never had a problem. Don't think there is any truth to that rumor, which by the way i have never heard til now. Hope you are enjoying your Z30 as much as i am mine. Love my Zune

I have had my Black Zune for 3 months or so. I have never experienced it being warm after charging for long periods of time. I wonder if it isn't someone who cracked it on accident and wants to find a way to claim under warranty? IDK, stranger things have happened I guess.

I have herd about the screen cracking issue, from over charging. I read on some web sites that said it is not true. Anyways I forgot my zune at home on the charger (dock) for 3 days, and my screen is fine. It's just a hoax made up by someone.

I've heard too many reports of this for it to be an urban legend. In the first-generation Zune30, the battery pack is located directly behind the screen. When the batteries overheat, they can expand enough to crack the screen. I've read where this problem was resolved in the second-year 4-8-80 models. But as a Zune30 owner, I'm careful never to overcharge.

I've had my 30 gig Zune for just about a year now, and I have noticed that it does get warm if it's played for too long or sometimes if I leave in pugged in to my computer. The only problem I see with leaving on the charger too long is that it will over charge and over time drain your battery. (as has happened to me) I just bought a new 8 gig one yesterday and noticed that while and was charging/syncing it, it got pretty warm. So my advice is just don't overcharge and you'll be fine ^^

I leave my Zune on the USB charger all night, every night, and I've never had a problem. I think the cracked screen thing is crap... but that's just me.

I've owned a Zune 30 for well over a year now. I've also never had a problem with it overcharging. I keep mine in my dock on the kitchen table and it syncs wirelessly to my computer. I have noticed that it tends to want to sync pretty often, and this does not allow it to power down like it does away from my wireless router. the answer is short, sweet, and 100% effective. Turn off your wireless sync, and your Zune will power off, and stay cool and fully charged. I just sync it to add my TV shows when I get home, and shut off wireless sync after it has downloaded my latest stuff. Works perfectly.
On a side note, do NOT buy aftermarket products for your Zune, they NEVER fit it correctly and I know two people that damaged their bottom connectors with aftermarket cords and cables.
Buy original, sync, and enjoy!
